Do I need to know how to navigate?
Yes.  This is an adventure race.  With very few exceptions, you will navigate to checkpoints using your map and compass using any route you choose.  The map scale will be 1:24.  Maps will be pre plotted.

Can I bring my own paddle and PFD?
Yes.  Straight paddles will be provided, but Kayak paddles are more efficient.  We will transport a paddle bag for you.  The bag will go with you on the paddle.

How does scoring work?
Each checkpoint is worth one point.  All teams must go thru each transition area in order.  If a transition area is missed the team will be disqualified.  Team’s tied for points will then be ranked by the fastest time. There will be a 12 hour cut-off for the 12 hour course and a 24 hour cut-off for the 24 hour course.  Teams will lose one checkpoint for every five minutes they are late.

How do I qualify for the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) championships?
Go to usara.com and register your team.  If you place in the top four three person teams (male, female, or coed) you will be sent an invitation to compete.

Do I need a support crew?

No.  Support from anyone other than another racer is prohibited.

Is there water on the course?

Green Ridge is one of the driest areas in Maryland.  We will provide water at each transition area.

Is there anyplace to purchase food on the course?
No.  This is a very remote area.  You will need to carry your food for the entire race.

Do I need to purchase a USARA membership?
Yes.  If you are not a USARA member you may purchase a one day membership for $8.  Annual memberships are also available.
